Gordon's Big Birthday--80 years old and still going strong!!!

This year was Shawn's dad Gordon's 80th birthday so all of us kids decided to throw him a big ol' birthday bash.  We reserved the church cultural hall and started planning.  Jen worked on invitations, Christie worked on table decorations, and I worked on the cake and the sign in book.  We bought lots and lots of food and hoped that enough people would come to eat all the food that we bought.

And come they did.   All of Gordon's friends came, all the people in his and Carolyn's ward came, all his family came, and all his tax clients came.  Everyone loves Gordon.  But of course, he is easy to love.  We got a big velvet chair for him to sit on and we got him a crown.  When everyone came through the door, we took a picture of them and had them sign a page in his sign-in book.

Gordon got to greet everyone from his "throne" as they came in.  It was so much fun to see all his friends and family.  We got him a pretty amazing cake.  On one side, it had a picture of him as a baby, in the middle it had a picture of him as a young man, and on the other side it had a picture of Gordon and Carolyn together.  It was all done with edible frosting.  So cool!

On the tables, Brett and Christie had put together wooden sailboats ( Gordon used to love sailing) and wooden flowerpots (he still loves gardening) that had pictures of Gordon throughout his life on them.  They turned out so dang cute.

Savannah and Marissa were in charge of the sign in table.  They had to make sure that we got everyone's picture and that everyone signed the book.  Nick was also a big help with this.  RubyLyn just kept helping herself the the cake and we all just couldn't get mad at her because she was so dang cute.

Jen and I went shopping for the food and we had chicken salad sandwiches, fruit, and of course cake.  Everything turned out so well and we had a wonderful time.  Happy 80th Birthday Gordon.
